Bio / Bibliography:

Originally from Washington D.C., Larry Matthews relocated to New Zealand in 1993. In addition to writing and performing poetry, he worked as a senior teaching fellow in Design and Communication at the University of Otago. Previously, he taught graphic design at Wanganui and Manawatu Polytechnics, and had a five-year stint as a visual designer for the Smithsonian Institution National Zoological Park in Washington D.C. In 2003, he received a Master of Consumer and Applied Sciences from the University of Otago for the design of ‘Lattétude’, ‘a new concept in coffee drinking based on the principles of yin and yang’. His poetry was published in, among other places, JAAM, Glottis, Deep South, Southern Ocean Review and Takahe. His drawings, design work and photography have also been featured regularly in exhibitions, both in New Zealand and the United States. Larry Matthews passed away in May 2011.
