Bio /Bibliography:

Vincent O’Sullivan is a Wellington-based poet, playwright, novelist, short story writer and academic. He has also compiled anthologies of New Zealand poetry and short fiction, and is co-editor (with Margaret Scott) of the collected letters of Katherine Mansfield. O’Sullivan was born in Auckland in 1937, and educated at the universities of New Zealand and Oxford. Returning to New Zealand in 1963, he worked first as lecturer in the English Department at Victoria University, Wellington (1963-6), followed by ten years in the English Department at the University of Waikato. In the late 1970s, he left academia to become a full-time writer; from 1979-80 he was literary editor of the New Zealand Listener, and from 1981-7 literary fellow at various universities in Australasia. In 1988, he returned to Victoria University as professor of English, and since 1997 has been director of the Stout Research Centre. In 2003, he published Long Journey to the Border, a biography of John Mulgan.
