Bio / Bibliography:
Vivienne Merrill (writes as: Vivienne Joseph).
I was born in Wellington. My two daughters are married and I have one son currently living in Brisbane. I have been living on the Kapiti Coast for about 12 years but have also lived in Australia and England for short periods.
I grew up in Johnsonville (in my grandfather’s house) near Wellington and attended Johnsonville Main Primary school and Onslow College. I am more than halfway through my B.A. at Massey as an extramural student.
My early occupations (as a teenager) included working on a dairy farm, as a veterinary nurse and office work. I have worked in bookshops and as a sales rep selling books. From 1991-1994, I started up the Wellington office of a paper, Trade & Exchange, and worked as manager for three years.
I have been a regular contributor to the School Journal since 1979 (titles available ex SJ Catalogue). I worked as a regular scriptwriter for ‘Grandpa’s Place’ a RNZ programme for pre-school children. I wrote a monthly page for The NZ Listener for 3 years in which I reviewed books for children and interviewed visiting authors. I teach night classes in writing for children at Kapiti, Mana and Tawa Colleges; also, a short course at Whitireia (Paraparaumu Campus). I tutor weekend courses in writing for adults once a month at Kapiti and Mana Colleges. For the past two years I have I tutored the module Writing for Children which is a part of the Whitireia (Porirua) full time course in writing. I enjoy visiting schools and running writing workshops.
