She teaches a course on Creative Writing in the Marketplace at the International Institute of Modern Letters, Victoria University, and is on the board of the New Zealand Book Council. Her first book, Husk, appeared in 2002, and won the NZSA Jessie Mackay Best First Book Award for Poetry in the Montana New Zealand Book Awards that year. She may occasionally be seen playing percussion in an acoustic instrumental quartet, Waiting for Donald, which released a self-titled CD in 2001.
